Where did the earliest Belizeans come from?

The ancient human remains were found at the bottom of a cenote (derived from the Maya word dzonot) located more than 2,000 feet (610 meters) below sea level. Known as Hoyo Negro, or Black Hole in Spanish, the deep pit is located inside the massive Aktun-Hu cave system on the Yucatan Peninsula coast north of Belize.

I am a nature lover

I would like to visit a Belize rain forest for a once -in-a-lifetime opportunity to see nature up close and learn about the lush variety of plants and animals that still live in their natural habitat before they are lost – just the way the diversity of life has been lost where I live. The diversity is greater, the colors are brighter and more exotic in Belize, with rare tropical birds and lush native flowers. The Mayans that lived in Belize long ago have left archaeological treasures that I would love to explore and learn about. A trip to Belize would be an experience I will always remember, especially if I get to see the Great Blue Hole.

Ten reasons why Belize makes for Honeymoon Bliss

Something not often highlighted, but to me of huge importance, is the flexibility of a Belizean honeymoon experience and the ability to structure your time exactly as you wish.
I’ve been around, and I still can’t think of anywhere as beautiful, and as romantic as the Caribbean. Even Johnny Depp wouldn’t be as charming anywhere else. Pirates of the Mediterranean just doesn’t quite have it.

A Splendid Vacation Spot

We greatly enjoyed our four-day stay at Chaa Creek Resort , an ideal way to enjoy nature while being pampered at a delightful location by an immensely dedicated and caring staff. The rooms were spacious and spotless. Even though the garden cottages (where we stayed) have adjacent rooms, we were never bothered by noise from next door.

Belize’s ATM delivers shivers, not cash

Actun Tunichil Muknal, or ATM, as the locals call it, is located a four-hour drive inland from the Belizean coast. Then there’s a hike for two hours through heavy, humid rainforest. Then there are three rivers to cross. By the time my guide, Edward Alfaro, and I get to the cave, we are soaking wet. Which is excellent, because we spend half the time in the cave swimming though icy pools of water.

Well before Jimi Hendrix, Maya mega-sound systems boomed

According to a study recently presented by a team from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Maya building design, layout, construction, and finishes would have been especially good for projecting the human voice or sound from the sorts of musical instruments the Maya used. Using modern sound-measuring instruments and a 3-D computer model of the site, the team concluded that sounds made atop a temple in Palenque could be heard clearly for over a hundred meters.
