Lodge At Chaa Creek, Belize
Even before Francis Ford Coppola opened his eco-lodges in Belize, Chaa Creek (chaacreek.com) was taking the greener approach to tourism. With some road-building help from the British army, this organic farm opened its first rooms in 1981. It …

My husband and I just returned from a week in Chaa creek for our honeymoon. We had a grand time, and armed with some knowledge from this trip, we would definitely return again…and again.
The Best Parts:
The staff – always had a smile, were knowledgeable on every topic we questioned, and went above and beyond to accomodate all of our needs
The cottages – The Macal Cottage — beautiful and lavish in everyway (but a little close to the other cottages), and …

This spring was my second trip to Belize and Chaa Creek Resort. There have been a ton of renovations since 2007! The new pool is an amazing bonus. The sun gets hot mid day, and it is a refreshing way to cool off. I stayed at the jungle camp, very exposed to the elements but clean, and comfortable. There isn’t electricity in the camp, however the lamps are lit at dusk, and it is easy to navigate. Overall, the place is …

The tiny Central American country of Belize attained its Independence in 1981 from the United Kingdom. The following is the National Anthem of Belize:
O. Land of the Free by the Carib Sea,
Our manhood we pledge to thy liberty!
No tyrants here linger, despots must flee
This tranquil haven of democracy
The blood of our sires which hallows the sod,
Brought freedom from slavery oppression’s rod,
By the might of truth and the grace of God,
No longer shall we be hewers of wood.
Arise! ye sons of the …

Despite worthy and growing competition, Chaa Creek, which first opened its doors in 1981, remains the premier cottage colony around San Ignacio.
Mick and Lucy Fleming started Chaa Creek when tourists were almost unknown in Cayo. (In 2004, Lucy was elected president of the Belize Tourism Industry Association.)
