I was a recent guest at Chaa Creek and was amazed by the beauty of the property, accomodations and most importantly the staff! The property definitely rates as one of the best not only in Belize, but in all of Central America!
We were greeted by the front desk and offered 2 beautiful rooms (the one had a romantic outdoor shower) and chose a location that looked out on the river and was extremely private. The decor of the room was …

We stayed at Chaa Creek for a few days the third week of February with our two kids- 9 & 13. This place was wonderful- we had a standard cottage as the Treetop suites did not have 4 beds. Ours was number 14 with a beautiful outdoor shower- the “room” was huge and perfectly fine for us. I really liked the no locks policy (with a safe in the room)- we felt completely secure at all times.
The food was good …

The Lodge at Chaa Creek is located along banks of the Macal River in the foothill of the Maya Mountains. What better way to get there than by a thrilling sight-seeing helicopter excursion. There are two different routes to choose for the helicopter transfer from the Belize International Airport to the lodge.
Option 1: Direct Route to Chaa Creek (Blue Route)

As you depart from the Belize International Airport sit back and allow yourself …

This was our first trip to Belize, and we wanted to experience both the jungle/inland culture as well as the ocean scene. I’m very glad we picked Chaa Creek for our stay on the mainland!
We were picked up at the airport & driven the 2 hour trip to the resort by private transport, which after a long day traveling was quite appreciated. It was nice to have a knowledgeble & friendly driver telling us about the countryside during our ride.
Our …

Several major quakes, centering under the sea just north of the Honduras Bay Islands, shook much of coastal Belize last night. There was more damage in Honduras, where several people (maybe more) died from collapsed homes. The ensuing tsunami threat was lifted this morning. Central America is riddled with major geologic fault lines (Belize is one of the only countries in the region without any volcanoes); but earthquakes are rare in Belize.
Seems like the extent of the damage in Belize …

Author Joan Fry Provides Window to 1960s Maya Village Life in Southern Belize

How to Cook a Tapir, by Joan Fry
I love a good travel memoir, better yet, a full-immersion culinary travel memoir. So it was with great anticipation that I cracked open Joan Fry’s latest book, How to Cook a Tapir: A Memoir of Belize. The book documents the author’s time living among the Maya in a village in southern Belize in 1962. A sophomore in college, Fry fell into her life abroad by marrying a dashing anthropologist and following him into …

Spent 6 nights in Chaa Creek at the beginning of May….and loved it! We had four nights in the Spa villa and 2 nights in a Treetop Suite, with the rest of our party staying in Orchard Villa. As a large party (11 people), we were treated amazingly by the staff at Chaa Creek. They were always courteous and made sure that we were enjoying ourselves! When one of the party was ill, one of the staff went out of …

The story of Chaa Creek Cottages began in 1977 when two young travelers stumbled upon what would later become their adopted home. In those days most business was conducted around bar room tables in Belize City and it was here that Mick and Lucy Fleming ran into the owner of an overgrown 140 acre farm in the Cayo District.

They soon moved out to the jungle property and within years the land was producing home grown vegetables. In those days the …

DAY SEVEN:  There were no roads—just overgrown jungle.
Mick Fleming approached in dugout canoe. “But there was something about the place,” he recalls more than 30 years later.
His wife Lucy, who arrived on horseback the day after he saw the overgrown farm, agrees.  “This place always had a certain amount of magic—a pull. I felt it. We were young and crazy—no money and decided to be pioneers.”
Lucy was from New Jersey; Mick from England. They had met in England …

“Chaa Creek was excellent to say the least. The staff was great as was nearly everything else there.”
“My new husband and I spent the first four nights of our honeymoon at Chaa Creek and loved every minute of it.”
“We stayed here for few nights when travelling around Central America and can’t wait to come back here again. The staff here are all extremely helpful, they even dried our trainers for us after we’d been out caving. The hotel is set …

Prepare for Paradise, people.
I was looking forward to my stay at Chaa Creek. And I am a pretty tough customer. I would have to say that Chaa Creek – and all that it offers (and doesn’t) is as close to the perfect destination for a relaxing vacation as I’ve been.
The accommodations are enveloping and classy and down to earth all at once. I think I could live in #23 for a month and never miss the TV, phone or alarm …

Great time at Chaa Creek. Must say that the beautiful views and accommodations were only eclipsed by the wonderfully helpful and pleasant staff. Fantastic on site adventures to be had including day and night tours, kayaking, bird watching, butterflies and more. Rides around town and to local attractions are no problem-cave tubing, zip line, Mayan ruins, name it.
Let’s get back to the staff. Picture sitting on your casita deck, lounging in a hammock reading a book, and out of the …

Truly a Gem:
Chaa Creek was the most amazing place ever. It was in the middle of the jungle but still had all the modern amenities. So many activities on site to do. We mountain biked to the ruins. Definitely needed a few more days to really enjoy what Chaa has to offer!

My husband & I spent a week at Chaa Creek and can’t wait to return. It is worth the two hour drive into the interior of the country!
The staff is so pleasant and customer-service oriented. We were greeted at the airport by the driver that we arranged through the resort. He was helpful and informative on the drive to the resort. Upon arrival, our bags were taken to our room as we checked in. The front desk clerk personally showed …
